تم ربط سبع حالات أخرى لمتغير فيروس كورونا والذي تم العثور عليها لأول مرة في المملكة المتحدة بتفشي المرض في منشأة لإنتاج اللحوم في تورنتو.
أخطرت هيئة الصحة العامة في تورنتو الناس لأول مرة بتفشي المرض في1 فبراير، قائلة إن 78 عاملاً في شركة Belmont Meats في شمال يورك أثبتت إصابتهم بفيروس كورونا. من بين هذه الإصابات كانت اثنتان إيجابيتان لـ سلالة الفيروس المتغير B.1.1.7.
في ذلك الوقت، قال المسؤولون: إن هناك دليلًا على “انتقال ثانوي للمتغير في أحد أفراد الأسرة” وأنه لا يوجد ما يشير إلى أن الحالات الإيجابية أو الأشخاص المقربين منهم قد سافروا مؤخرآ الى الخارج.
أغلقت شركة Belmont Meats طواعية في 28 يناير بعد أن بدأت الصحة العامة في مقاطعة تحقيقًا حول تفشي الفيروس.
واليوم الإثنين، أكدت هيئة الصحة العامة في تورنتو وجود 95 حالة إصابة إيجابية بفيروس مرتبطة بتفشي المرض في شركة Belmont Meats من بين تلك الحالات المؤكدة تم الآن تأكيد تسع حالات على أنها من سلالة الفيروس المتغير B.1.1.7.
وقال مسؤولون إن خمس من هذه الحالات تعيش خارج تورنتو.
يُعتقد أن السلالة الفيروس المتغير أكثر سهولة في الانتقال من السلالة الأصلية ويتوقع مسؤولو الصحة أنها ستكون المصدر المهيمن للعدوى في أونتاريو بحلول شهر مارس.
ويوم أمس الأحد، أكدت الصحة العامة في تورنتو عن عثور على أول حالة إصابة بـ P.1. تم الإبلاغ عن متغير الفيروس الذي ظهر لأول مرة في البرازيل، بالإضافة إلى الحالة الأولى لمتغير B.1.351 الذي شوهد لأول مرة في جنوب إفريقيا.
