كندا لايف – اعتقلت وحدة الجرائم المالية التابعة لدائرة شرطة تورنتو (TPS) ثلاثة مشتبه بهم بزعم أنهم يديرون معمل تزوير “متطور” في تورنتو، يستخدم لإنشاء بطاقات هدايا تم التلاعب بها “للاستخدام الاحتيالي”.
تقول الشرطة إن المعمل كان يُزعم أنه تم تشغيله بين يوليو 2022 ويناير 2023.
يوم الأربعاء، 25 يناير، نفذت الشرطة أوامر تفتيش في منزل في ريتشموند هيل، ونشاط تجاري في تورنتو.
وأعلنت الشرطة في بيان صحفي إنها صادرت كمية “ضخمة” من بطاقات الهدايا المزورة، تقدر قيمتها بنحو 500 ألف دولار.
كما صادروا عددًا غير معروف من بطاقات الهوية الصادرة عن الحكومة، إلى جانب المعدات الإلكترونية المستخدمة في العبث ببطاقات الهدايا.
تم اتهام لوري بيريت البالغ من العمر 38 عامًا و فيتالي فوكوف البالغ من العمر 35 عامًا من ريتشموند هيل بالاحتيال بأكثر من 5000 دولار، والتعامل في بطاقات الهدايا المعدلة وحيازة العائدات التي تم الحصول عليها عن طريق جريمة.
كما تم اتهام إليزافيتا بيريت البالغة من العمر 34 عامًا من ريتشموند هيل بحيازة عائدات تم الحصول عليها بجريمة.
في ديسمبر من العام الماضي، كشفت شرطة بيل الإقليمية وضابطة شرطة يورك الإقليمية، نيشيل لاوس، عن عملية احتيال على بطاقة الهدايا، اكتشفتها في سوق عقاقير التسوق المحلي، حيث كشفت عن بطاقة هدايا PlayStation ظهرت كبطاقة هدايا LCBO عند مسحها ضوئيًا.
في ملف على إنستغرام، كشفت كيف يمكن للمحتالين تطبيق رموز شريطية مزيفة على بطاقات الهدايا لخداع الأشخاص من أموالهم.
وفقًا لـ ضابطة الشرطة يشتري المحتالون بطاقات هدايا فارغة من بائع التجزئة ويضيفون الرموز الشريطية الخاصة بهم في الأعلى، تاركين الرمز الشريطي مرتفعًا قليلاً، والذي يمكن الشعور به عند تشغيل إصبعك على طوله.
