ودعت الوزارتان، في بيان نُشر على الموقع الإلكتروني لوزارة الطاقة، الحكومة الكندية إلى العدول عن قرارها. وذكر البيان أن إعادة التوربين ستكون بمثابة تعديل العقوبات المفروضة على موسكو بما يتوافق مع أهواء روسيا.
ومن جهته رحب المستشار الألماني أولاف شولتس باعتزام كندا إعادة التوربين، وهو أمر ضروري للتشغيل الكامل لخط أنابيب الغاز السيل الشمالي-1.
ونقلت صحيفة دي ويلت عن شولتس قوله نرحب بقرار أصدقائنا وحلفائنا الكنديين.
وأعلن وزير الموارد الطبيعية الكندي، جوناثان ويلكنسون في وقت سابق أن كندا ستمنح تصريحا محدود المدة وقابل للإلغاء لشركة سيمنز كندا للسماح بإعادة (وحدة ضخ الغاز) توربين السيل الشمالي-1 التي تم إصلاحها، إلى ألمانيا.
وفي 14 يونيو، أعلنت شركة غازبروم الروسية أنها اضطرت إلى خفض إمدادات الغاز عبر السيل الشمالي-1 بسبب عدم إعادة وحدات ضخ الغاز التوربينات من قبل شركة سيمنز-كندا، بعد الإصلاحات وتحديد الأعطال الفنية للمحركات.
وتدعي شركة سيمنز كندا أن توربينات الغاز الخاصة بشركة الشيل الشمالي، بعد إصلاحها، لا يمكن إعادتها إلى ألمانيا من مونتريال، بسبب العقوبات التي فرضتها كندا على روسيا.
