كندا لايف – تخلصت كندا من 13,6 مليون جرعة من لقاح أسترازينيكا المقاوم لكوفيد-19 لانتهاء صلاحيتها.
وكانت وقعت كندا عقدا مع أسترازينيكا عام 2020 للحصول على 20 مليون جرعة لقاح، وتلقى 2.3 مليون كندي جرعة واحدة على الأقل منه، معظمها بين مارس ويونيو 2021.
وعندما طفت على السطح مخاوف في ربيع 2021 من حدوث جلطات دموية نادرة وإن تكن قاتلة بعد التطعيم باللقاح، ركزت كندا على استخدام إمداداتها الكبيرة من لقاحات موديرنا وفايزر- بيونتيك.
وفي يوليو 2021 وعدت كندا بالتبرع ببقية إمداداتها المشتراة، التي قدرت بنحو 17.7 مليون جرعة.
إلا أن وزارة الصحة الكندية أصدرت بيانا، الثلاثاء، قالت فيه إنها لن تتمكن من الوفاء بهذا الوعد لانتهاء صلاحية 13.6 مليون جرعة سيتعين التخلص منها.
وتبرعت كندا في المجموع بـ8.9 ملايين جرعة من لقاح أسترازينيكا، و4.1 ملايين جرعة اشترتها من برنامج مشاركة اللقاحات (كوفاكس)
وتلقى نحو 85 بالمئة من الكنديين جرعات تطعيم كاملة، مقارنة بـ 61 بالمئة من سكان العالم، و16 بالمئة فقط من سكان الدول الفقيرة.
