التقى رئيس حكومة مقاطعة أونتاريو الخارجة زعيم الحزب التقدمي المحافظ دوغ فورد في الثالثة بعد ظهر اليوم نائبة حاكمة كندا العامة في مقاطعة أونتاريو اليزابيت داودزويل وطلب منها حلّ الجمعية التشريعي. وقد تمت الموافقة من قبلها على طلبه مما يؤذن ببدء الحملة الانتخابية المحلية رسمياً.
ويشير بيان صادر عن مكتب رئيس الحكومة إلى أنه ’’تم حلّ الجمعية التشريعية الثانية والأربعين في أونتاريو رسميًا في الساعة الرابعة بعد ظهر اليوم الثلاثاء‘‘
على أن تبدأ الحملة الانتخابية اعتبارا من يوم غد الأربعاء وتجري الانتخابات يوم 2 حزيران / يونيو المقبل. بعد أربع سنوات على آخر انتخابات جرت في المقاطعة.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن رؤساء الأحزاب في أونتاريو بدأوا بالفعل بحملات دعائية غير رسمية منذ عدة أسابيع.
وقام اثنان من الأحزاب المحلية الرئيسية في المقاطعة بنشر برنامجهما الانتخابي بالفعل.
تشير استطلاعات الرأي التي صدرت حتى الآن إلى أن الحزب التقدمي-المحافظ الخارج يتقدم في نوايا التصويت، يليه الحزب الليبرالي والحزب الديمقراطي الجديد.
