أعلنت هيئة النقل الكندية أنها ستسمح بعودة طائرات بوينج ماكس للخدمة في المجال الجوي الكندي في 20 يناير/كانون الثاني، في ختام عملية المراجعة الحكومية.
سيسمح للطائرات بالتحليق طالما أنها تستوفي الشروط التي حددتها هيئة النقل الكندية في ديسمبر/كانون الأول، بما في ذلك السماح للطيارين بتعطيل نظام الإنذار الخاطئ الذي وجد أنه مركزي في حوادث 2018 و 2019.

يذكر أنه تم إيقاف الطائرات منذ مارس/آذار 2019 بعد تحطم طائرة تابعة لشركة طيران Ethiopian بالقرب من جاكرتا في 29 أكتوبر/تشرين الأول 2018، وطائرة تابعة للخطوط الجوية الإثيوبية في 10 مارس 2019، مما أسفر عن مقتل ما مجموعه 346 شخصآ
توصل المحققون إلى أن سبب كلا الحادثين هو خلل في نظام الكمبيوتر دفع مقدمة الطائرة للأسفل أثناء الرحلة.
